Why I’m In London: Cat-sitting

This is Apple the cat. The reason I’m in London for Christmas is purely out of luck and chance. Basically, my girlfriend wanted to go to Europe and had been looking for travel deals since November. However, everything was out of our budget. Meanwhile at work, a colleague in our London office sent out a message through a mailing list looking for a house-sitter and cat-sitter over the Christmas break. I have a lot of experience with cats, so we emailed her back. Then, we quickly booked our tickets to London via Air Canada.

Everything has worked out well so far. Apple the cat is incredibly loving and the apartment is cozy. We’ve been keeping the place clean and feeding the cat as well as stopping by the London office to meet our British colleagues (and obtain snacks).

Apple loves to curl up on my coat and rub her whiskers against my laptop. According to my readings about cat behavior, she’s trying to apply her scent to signify ownership. She also likes to walk over my keyboard — so if you receive an IM from me filled with undecipherable jargon, it may be the cat.

  1. That’s a lovely cat your colleague has and yep, cats seem to love to get in the way of a person and their keyboard.

Merry Xmas to you two there!

  2. The cat’s adorable!
