Hironobu Sakaguchi and his team at Mistwalker has unveiled The Last Story, a mysterious new game for the Nintendo Wii. All we know at this point is it has a fancy Final Fantasy-esque logo. It might not even be an RG.
However, I find it very amusing that Sakaguchi, the father of Final Fantasy, would give his new game a synonymous name. I guess old habits die hard. Maybe in another ten years, he can create Ultimate Tale and Decisive Drama.
All snark aside, I hope The Last Story can capture the simple but character-driven charm of the earlier Final Fantasy games and throw away all the anime J-pop nonsense. The best we can hope for is that Sakaguchi really treats the game like it’s his magnum opus and pours all of his heart and creativity into it.
