New Epic Details For Epic Mickey

epic

Disney meets steampunk dystopia. Imagine a world of broken machinery, hostile and jagged. The concept art is nightmarish. But just how epic is Epic Mickey?

Well, Eurogamer has some new tidbits about the game’s plot.  Here’s a quick summary for the lazy:

  • The setting is a forgotten world filled with failed and lost Disney characters
  • This world is run by Oswald the Rabbit, the very first (and largely forgotten) Disney character
  • Oswald uses The Phantom Blot to pollute the Disney universe with black ink
  • Mickey navigates by drawing and painting his way through levels
  • Mickey will be retro

Over the years, Mickey has been whitewashed and neutered into a kind of boy scout role-model. Hopefully, the retro makeover will realign him with Walt Disney’s original creation: a mischevous trickster who doesn’t take crap from anyone and loves the ladies.

As for Oswald the Rabbit, all I can say is: “holy crap!” I knew Disney was planning to reintroduce him into their pantheon of characters after reclaiming the rights in 2006. But I didn’t expect him to be a villain!

Oooh, it’s de Blob with more marketing leverage.

  2. Sort of. But The Phantom Blot is actually a classic Disney villain from the 1930s. He looks like a man in a black sheet with eye-holes.
