Speaking of win-win situations, you may have heard about the gay dating site ManCrunch and their new Super Bowl ad that’s garnering all sorts of controversy from conservatives. The commercial (embedded below) is reminiscent of an old MAD TV skit about two dudes who love football… and each other. It’s currently undergoing editorial review at CBS.
The commercial is pretty tame. But that’s beside the point.
Similar to the Tim Tebow pro-life commercial with Christian advocacy group Focus on the Family, ManCrunch’s commercial is in a win-win situation right now. If CBS approves the commercial to run on Super Bowl Sunday, the marketing team can claim a small victory. Considering the economy and declining ad dollars on TV, this may very well happen.
On the other hand, if CBS rejects the commercial, it will simply get exposure as ‘the ad that was too racy for the Super Bowl.’ Plus, ManCrunch avoids paying the steep entry price (cost $3 million last year). Either way, the site gets publicity.
[UPDATE 1/29/10: And so, the ad is pulled.]
