[E3 2009] Hands On With Aragorn’s Quest

aragornsquest

The Lord Of The Rings meets Kingdom Hearts: that’s the best way to describe Aragorn’s Quest. Whereas all of EA’s games (and the Peter Jackson films) depict the world in grays and browns, Aragorn’s Quest is like a bizarre Disney cartoon with lots of killing. I wonder how Tolkien would feel about this family friendly makeover if he were alive.

Aragorn’s Quest is WB’s first LOTR title, having acquired the license from Electronic Arts. The game basically focuses on Aragorn’s adventures in Middle Earth during the most pivotal moments of his time. For example, you’ll have to help Aragorn win the Battle of the Hornburg and defend the city of Minas Tirith. However, at every moment, it feels like Winnie the Pooh will show up with his friends.

The game will be available on both the Wii and Nintendo DS. I had a chance to test out both versions. Obviously, the Wii version is superior to the DS version. On the Wii, you can use the remote to conduct sword attacks. You can also very quickly switch to a shield, bow, and other items. The DS control isn’t bad. But Aragorn’s character model is far too big for the screen and it’s difficult to see what’s going on.

By the way, this is Rivendell.
