Boxing Day In London, Part 3

In the first post I mentioned that it had drizzled in the morning and we were forced to leave Hyde Park briefly and check out Harrods. Well, here are the pictures:

Harrods

For those who don’t know, Harrods is the biggest and most famous department store in London. They have a mad Boxing Day sale every year that they tout as ‘the only sale.’ We got here at around 9:30a and the store was set to open at 10:00a. Look at those lines.

Boy, these people are really eager to buy clothes. One of the badass things about Harrods I learned was that they actually use a deadly cobra to guard a very valuable pair of shoes. Now that’s security.

It’s a little hard to see in this picture, but behind the red balloons were protesters hating on the fact that Harrods is the only store in London that still deals with animal furs. Cruel? You bet.

There was also a red carpet laid out, presumably for celebrities.

At 10:00a, everybody stormed into the store like the ‘running of the bulls.’ But even at 70% off, a lot of the clothes were too expensive for me. However, a bear was purchased.

This is just one of over 330 departments at Harrods. Not bad when you consider Harrods was founded in the 1830s as a grocery store.
