Flying Back To Riverside – Remodeled SJC Terminal

I’m sitting in the newly remodeled Terminal B at the Norm Mineta San Jose International Airport, waiting for my flight to arrive.

Southwest delays are pretty common. The very first time I flew Southwest, I was delayed by over 3 hours. Since then, I’ve flown maybe 20-30 times and been delayed on over half the flights. But I still love them because they let me choose my own seats, don’t charge for water, and let me bring extra bags with no charge. And when the delay is only 15 minutes, I consider that a tiny blessing.

The new terminal is pretty amazing. The design is very modern and features nice carpet, soft jazz, warm lighting, and contoured wood on the walls. The floor is also incredibly clean. But I imagine once the wear and tear sets in, it’ll be like other terminal. But for now, it feels like cozy coffee shop.

I’m going home because I realized I maxed out my allotted vacation. I can accrue up to 30 days. After that, any additional time are essentially wasted. I need to deplete some days so I keep accruing. But it has been difficult because I’m dedicated to my work and because my clients need my support. Still, the quarter just started and things haven’t gotten too crazy yet. So I figured I’d be okay just taking two days off.

The plan is to go to Palm Springs with the family and ride the tram into the mountains. It’ll be nice to see them again. But at the same time, I regret I’ll be missing the UCLA vs. Cal football game this Saturday. Well, if the Bruins suffer another loss, maybe I won’t feel so bad.
